WHETHER it be jumpers, socks or shorts, clubs in the Champions IGA-backed CVFL senior women’s football competition will be sporting pink in this Sunday’s matches.

It’s Pink Round once again, in which clubs join forces to raise awareness about breast cancer and to raise funds for support networks.

In 2019 it was Strathfieldsaye Storm that donned the pink jumpers.

Since then, Pink Round has become a key feature of the CVFL season. There will be three matches played from 1pm on Sunday.

It also marks round six in an 18-round home-and-away series.

Golden Square will be on home turf at Wade Street against the Marong Panthers.

The Carly Geary and Bec McLay-coached Golden Square has a four-one record and sits second in the premiership race.

Runner-up to Castlemaine last season, Golden Square has a lot of running power and skill.

Players to watch in the Golden Square team include captain Liz Watkins, vice-captain Lauren Suleiman, Ayesha Gideon, Sarah Mannes, and Clare Picone.

It will be a huge challenge for a Marong team coached by Jimmy Evenden and Daniel Bourke.

Meanwhile, Bendigo Thunder meets North Bendigo on Thunder’s turf at Weeroona Oval in Napier Street.

The Mick McInnes-coached Thunder is against an opponent which is aiming for a rare feat of back-to-back wins.

The Jaydene Burzacott and Zak Carter-coached North Bendigo won its round four clash with White Hills and then had a bye.

There is added spice to the Thunder and Bulldogs match, considering that some of North Bendigo’s players were at Thunder last season.

Unbeaten and on top of the ladder, Castlemaine is also back in action after a bye.

The Jordan Cochrane-coached Castlemaine will be on home turf at Camp Reserve against White Hills.

It will be another huge test for a young White Hills team coached by Phil Murley.

Eaglehawk and Sandhurst have the bye.
