THE top Bendigo Netball League netballers have been selected for an open representative team that will compete at the Netball Victoria Association Championship finals next week.

The squad includes Kangaroo Flat’s Chelsea Sartori, Milly Wicks and sister duo Abbey and Ashley Ryan and Sandhurst’s Rebecca Smith, Sophie Shoebridge, Ruby Turner and Meg Williams.

Roos coach Jayden Cowling will lead the team, assisted by Strathfieldsaye Storm’s Stephanie Freemantle.

Cowling, who recently won a silver medal with Victoria at the Australian Men’s and Mixed Netball Association Championships, said he’s thrilled to be coaching the rep squad.

“The selected team contains such a high calibre of players from within our league, and I am eager to see what this team can achieve together on-court,” he said.

“The BFNL open team will be going to Melbourne with an intent to give the Association Championships all they’ve got, and I am privileged to receive an opportunity to coach these tremendous athletes from our league”.

BFNL manager Cameron Tomlins said the players selected should be proud of themselves for earning the opportunity to represent the league.

“We are thankful for the investment of all players and volunteers to make themselves available for selection for representative duties,” he said.

“Coach Jayden Cowling has been able to select an incredibly strong team that we are confident will achieve success, whilst representing the current high standard and quality of BFNL netball.”

The championships take place at the State Netball Centre at Parkville on Sunday, 24 July.
