VICTORIOUS coach Brodie Collins declared it was not just Lockington Bamawm United FNC which would celebrate the senior footy team’s latest grand final victory.

“The whole district will be abuzz,” Collins said after last Saturday’s hard-fought win over Mount Pleasant.

It was LBU which scored the last three goals of the match after Mounts was within three points in the 21st minute of the final quarter.

“It’s been an incredible run,” Collins said. “There were many things going through my mind late in the game.

“The main thing was to show we were up for the fight, and we did.”

Collins said LBU had learnt a lot after being outplayed by Mount Pleasant for most of the second semi final at Gunbower.

“We knew our workrate at the contest had to lift,” he said.

“It was not easy, but we watched the footage from the second semi and saw areas we had to be better at to beat Mounts in the grand final.”

There were many outstanding contributors in the grand final victory, but Collins praised the play of on-baller Marcus Angove, aka Rowdy, for his play in all four finals matches.

“His skills and two-way run are outstanding,” Collins said.

Mateship has played a big part in LBU’s success in recent years with more than two-thirds of the 22 who took to the field in the grand final playing for the Cats as juniors.

Collins praised the entire club for its support across the past three years.

“It’s been incredibly tough through Covid, but a day like today makes it all worthwhile,” he said.
