Mounts strive to break Colbo’s streak
MOUNT Pleasant will aim to end Colbinabbin’s winning streak in Saturday’s ninth round of senior footy in the Bendigo Bank Heathcote District Football League.
It’s a huge task for the Darren Walsh-coached Mounts, although they have home-ground advantage at Toolleen.
The Julian Bull-coached Colbinabbin made it eight wins in a row and ended Lockington Bamawm United’s unbeaten run last Saturday on the Grasshoppers’ turf at M. J. Morgan Reserve.
Matt Riordan, Ben Southam, Ben Barton and James Brain were in top form as Colbo won every quarter in the 81-34 victory, while James Brain kicked five goals in another superb game.
Mount Pleasant will be keen to hit back after a one-point defeat on North Bendigo’s turf at Hibo Hotel Oval.
Ben Weightman led the Blues attack on six goals and will test the Hoppers defence all match.
Other key players for Mounts include Bryce Hinneberg in defence, Sam Greene, ruckman Chris Down, and Travis Baird in attack or defence.
The Blues will be without co-coach and gun onballer Adam Baird after he injured his left leg in the first quarter of the clash against the Bulldogs and likely to miss the next four matches.
Lockington Bamawm United will be back on home turf to face Elmore.
Players to watch for the Cats include ruckman Tyler Phillips, Joss Howlett, Riley McIvor and Jarod Bacon.
Elmore marked consecutive victories as the Bloods beat Huntly by 19 points.
Darcy Laffy kicked four goals as Zac Laffy, Regan Williams, Kyle Armstrong and co-coach Dylan Gordon were best.
Huntly takes on White Hills at Strauch Reserve.
Best for the Hawks at Elmore were Mitch Christensen, Jayden Cordy, Jay McDonald and George Chamouras.
The Demons marked David Wright’s 250th senior game by scoring a 75-point win against Leitchville-Gunbower at White Hills.
Eight goals earned Liam Bartels best afield honours as Ryan Walker, Patrick Eefting and Nathan Moffat won plenty of contests.
The Bombers return to Leitchville to take on a Heathcote line-up freshened up by the bye.
Best for the Tim Bannan-coached Bombers in round eight were Oskar Smartt, Matt McLellan, Leyton Shenfield and Tom Brereton.
The Saints showed they have plenty of firepower in a 130-82 win against White Hills.
Players to watch for the Andrew Saladino-coached Heathcote include Mitch McLean, Jack Brooks in attack, Ryan Bailey, Codie Price off half-back, and Connor Hamilton.
North Bendigo has the bye.
