Reigning champs take on Kangaroos

THE unbeaten Bendigo takes on Kangaroo Flat in the fourth round of premier league in Bendigo’s leg of Bendigo Campaspe Goldfields pennant bowls this Saturday.

It’s the clash of the competition’s top two on Bendigo’s greens in Barnard Street from 1.30pm.

Bendigo was in hot form as it won last Saturday’s clash at Eaglehawk by 36 shots.

All four of Bendigo’s rinks were victorious in an 18-90- to 0-54 result in the Borough.

The Brayden Byrne-skipped rink won by 23 shots as Ian Ross, Tim Arnold and Luke Hoskin won by margins of five, three and five.

It will be a huge test for Kangaroo Flat which has a 2-1 record following a four-shot win at home against Golden Square.

Winners for the Roos were Brad Marron and Malcolm McLean by 11 and five shots.

The Kangaroos’ line-up includes Barry Anset and Greg Podesta as skippers.

Round four starts on Friday night when Bendigo East plays South Bendigo under lights from 6pm on the Magpies’ turf in Lansell Street.

Beaten in the opening two rounds, Bendigo East struck back for a 16-88 to 2-72 win at Inglewood last Saturday.

A highlight was the 24-shot win by the James McGillivray-skipped rink.

South Bendigo is on the rebound from a 25-shot loss at Moama.

The Brad Holland-skipped rink marked a 20-18 shot for South against the Steamers.

On Saturday it will be Golden Square at home against Inglewood and the blue and gold will start favourite in this contest.

A 2-1 record has Square in third place, while Inglewood is yet to mark a victory.

High for Inglewood in the clash with Bendigo East was an 18-shot win by the Robert Day-led rink.

Eaglehawk is home on the Simpsons Road greens to take on Moama.

A crucial contest between seventh and sixth who have 1-2 records.

Big test for Hawks’ skippers Lachlan Bowland, Simon Carter, Tony Ellis and Kym Schumacher.
