THE Bendigo Yacht Club is throwing open the doors to its unrivalled facilities on the northern shores of Lake Eppalock this Sunday, 16 January for it’s latest ‘Discover Sailing’ event.

Bendigonians of all ages and abilities are invited to turn up, throw a life jacket on, jump on a boat and be shown the ropes by one of the many experienced local sailors who will be available on the day.

Vice-commodore Peter Martin said there will be a range of club boats available for visitors to embark on.

“The club has a long history at Lake Eppalock and has built up a considerable club fleet,” he said.

“There are small one-person Opti sailboats, ideal for children as young as seven. We have a fleet of Pacer two-person dinghies that are easy to sail and are the go-to boats for our Sail Training courses.

“The club also has a larger Ross 650 trailerable yacht that can take four adults either for racing or a leisurely sail.

Club members will also have a range of other yachts available for visitors to learn more about the possibilities of sailing both on Eppalock and wider afield.”

Martin said all equipment, including life jackets will be supplied.

“Just bring clothing and footwear suitable for being in and around the water. And, don’t forget your hat!” he said.

“There are change rooms and facilities for visitor’s use, and a free sausage sizzle will be available.”

The Bendigo Yacht Club Discover Sailing Day takes place on Sunday 16 January from 10am to 3pm at 45 Sunset Drive, Eppalock.
