AFTER a three-week break, Athletics Victoria’s Shield League track and field action resumes in Bendigo this Saturday afternoon.

More than 100 athletes are tipped to take to the track, field, or both, at the Retreat Road complex from 1.30pm. Athletes will be aiming for personal bests and high scores for points in the various grades of AVSL.

Eaglehawk is in premier division against the likes of metro powers Essendon and Doncaster. Cubs in division two include Bendigo Harriers and South Bendigo.

Bendigo University is in division five and has distance runners James Trew and Billy Meade in great form. Saturday’s track program starts with the sprint hurdles at distances of 110, 100, 90 and 80 metres.

A 2000 or 5000-metre walk will be followed by the 100-metre sprint duels. The popular 1500-metre heats will be run from 2.35pm and be followed by the 400-metre showdowns.

In the 1500 metres, Jackson Eadon from Harriers ran the fastest time of 4 minutes 15 seconds in the second round of the season.

There will non-scoring 3000 or 5000-metre running races before the track program winds up with a four-by-100-metre relay.

An action-packed field program includes shot put, javelin, triple jump, and pole vault.

Some of the region’s best at throws include South Bendigo’s Emma Berg and Kai Norton, Eaglehawk’s Daniel Chisholm, Harriers’ Bailey Cooper and Jorja Hill.

Athletes to watch at triple jump include Eaglehawk’s William Beaton, Daniel and Dave Chisholm, Abbey Hromenko, Andrea Archibald and Jessica Grigson, South Bendigo’s Rhys Hansen, and Harriers’ Connor Clarke.

The third round for Bendigo Region has been re-scheduled by Athletics Victoria to be held as a twilight meet on Friday, 25 November.

Athletes who entered the planned round on October 22 will be eligible to compete and score points at this meet.

Athletics Bendigo has the option of allowing those athletes who did not previously enter for 22 October to compete on 25 November on an invitational and non-scoring basis.
