Break for Spirit basketballers
BENDIGO Spirit’s players, coaches and support staff will enjoy a nine-day break until their next match in the Cygnett Women’s National Basketball League season.
Spirit was in Perth for the December 5 showdown with Lynx on night two in the season’s sixth round.
Next game for Bendigo’s team will be on December 14 against Townsville Fire at Red Energy Arena in West Bendigo from 5pm.
It’s been a brilliant start to the season by the Kennedy Kereama-coached Spirit in which Paris Olympics bronze medallists Sami Whitcomb and Marianna Tolo have been major players in the winning run.
There’s been significant impact from the likes of Casey Samuels, Veronica Burton, and WNBL games and now Spirit’s games record-holder Kelly Wilson.
Aths in year’s finale
ATHLETICS Bendigo’s final Saturday meet of the year for senior competitors will be run this Saturday at Lar Birpa in Flora Hill.
Field and track action in the non-Shield meet at the Retreat Road complex starts at 1.30pm and will include distance hurdles, 1500m or 3000m walk, 200m, 800m, 60m, and 3000m or 5000m run.
A big afternoon will include discus, hammer, high jump and long jump.
Athletics Victoria’s Shield League resumes on January 7 at Lar Birpa from 1.30pm.
Two rounds of AVSL will be run in the lead-up to Bendigo hosting the Victoria Country championships on January 24 to 26 at Lar Birpa in Flora Hill.
Little Athletics will be run at the Flora Hill complex from 8.15am this Saturday when the multis are contested.
