Square meets Royals under Friday night lights
A SHOWDOWN between top four teams Golden Square and Bendigo on Friday night highlights the start of round seven in the Bendigo Campaspe Goldfields premier bowls weekend pennant. The Bulldogs will be on home greens in Wade Street when they play Bendigo from 6pm.
It’s a huge test for Golden Square against a Bendigo line-up which has a win-loss tally of four-one.
In the skipper standings, Golden Square’s leaders are Andrew Brown and Alex Skilton.
The blue and gold are up against a Bendigo team which includes Tim Arnold, Luke Hoskin, Brad Marron and Ian Ross.
On Saturday it will be South Bendigo against Marong from 1.30pm on the Diggers’ ground in Palmerston Street.
A three-two record has South Bendigo in fifth place.
Key bowlers for the Diggers include Liam Crapper, Brad Holland, Greg Sherman and Trevor Zimmer.
Marong fought back from a nil-three start in its premier division debut to beat Moama and Kangaroo Flat.
Marong won all four rinks in its latest hit-out at Kangaroo Flat as the Graeme Fawcett and Robet Day-skipped rinks led the way.
The winless Kangaroo Flat will be desperate to take the points at home against Eaglehawk.
The Roos line-up includes Shane Harling, Susan Howes, Paul Moller, Geoff and Wayne Walsh.
Eaglehawk will look for big games from Simon Carter, Mark and Tony Ellis, Phil Godkin and Con O’Shea to take the points.
Round seven will be completed on December 13 when Bendigo East hosts Moama on the Lansell Street greens from 5.30pm.
