Steamers front up to Diggers in semi-final

MOAMA Steamers face South Bendigo’s Diggers in Saturday’s start to premier division finals in Bendigo Campaspe Goldfields bowls weekend pennant.

First to the grand final is the reward as the Steamers and Diggers clash from 1.30pm on the Bendigo East greens in Lansell Street.

Golden Square and Bendigo will fight to stay in the premiership race when they play in the first semi at Bendigo East.

A record of 11 wins, two losses and a draw meant Moama finished the home-and-away series on top of the ladder on 198 points and 293 shots up.

The Diggers had a 9-4-1 record to be on 161 points and plus 89 shots.

Leading skipper across the league is Moama’s Kevin Anderson, 10 wins, three losses and 120 shots up.

First clash between these clubs in the 2024-25 campaign was in round one when South Bendigo marked a 16-85 to 2-69 victory on Moama’s turf.

In round eight the Steamers rolled their way to a 14-87 to 4-82 win on the Diggers’ ground.

South Bendigo’s skips in last Saturday’s win against Marong were Dale Oddy, David Daws, Brad Holland and Mitch Sidebottom.

The Steamers skips against Bendigo East were Matt Roberston, Alex Marshall, Kevin Anderson and Cameron Keenan,

This season’s showdowns between Golden Square and Bendigo have been a tie in round seven and a 14-shot win for the Bulldogs on Bendigo’s greens in Barnard Street in the 14th round.

These teams had identical win-loss tallies of eight-four, but the Square was a point and 51 shots clear of the Royals after last Saturday’s play.

Golden Square’s skips last round were Brad Campbell, Travis Berry, Bryce Young and Andrew Brown.

The Royals were led by Luke Hoskin, Brayden Byrne, Brad Marron and Nick Rowley.

There are 14 clubs represented across Saturday’s semi-finals from division two through to division seven.
