AN umpire development day run by Victorian Netball League (VNL) club Bendigo Strikers hopes to inspire the next generation of match-day officials in central and northern Victoria.
The one-day program on Sunday 1 March will aim to develop confident, consistent and well-prepared umpires across the region.
Designed to support umpires at all stages, from accredited to developing, the program will have a strong emphasis on core skill consolidation, badge assessment preparation, match management and performance mindset.
It will combine technical rule education, practical on-court sessions and mentoring opportunities.
International umpire Kate Wright will headline the event, joined by specialist in personal and performance psychology Leah Fogarty, a consultant for Netball Victoria.
It will include presentations from Bendigo Strikers coaches.
“Strong umpiring is built on confidence, clarity, and consistency,” Wright said. “Development days like this allow umpires to refine their craft, gain perspective and build the tools needed to perform under pressure.”
Strikers president Melinda Keighran said the event reflected the club’s commitment to supporting umpires as a vital part of the game.

“Umpires are essential to the quality and integrity of netball,” Keighran said. “This development day is about investing in our officials, supporting their pathways, and ensuring they feel confident, valued and prepared every time they step on court.”
The agenda covers leadership and communication, court movement and positioning, B Badge rule competencies, advantage philosophy, sanctions, mental strength, goal setting, and performance preparation.
The day will conclude with mentoring circles and feedback sessions to help umpires map their next steps toward badge progression or higher-level appointments.
Through the introduction of this program, the Strikers hope to reinforce the club’s ongoing commitment to umpire education and development within the region.
The umpire development day will run from 10am to 5pm at Red Energy Arena and the cost to participate is $50.
