OVERSEAS bouts later in the year are a target for Bendigo boxer Ryan Polglaise and trainer Lucas Allen.

The 16-year-old boxer added a Golden Gloves victory to his record at last weekend’s Fisticuffs tournament on Bribie Island in Queensland.

Polglaise weighed in at 80.9kg for the 81kg light heavyweight division for 15-17 years.

“This was Ryan’s biggest fight and best performance so far,” Allen said of the young gun from Bendigo Fight Centre in Golden Square.

“Ryan won every round against a tough opponent from Queensland to now be a Golden Gloves champion.”

Polglaise’s record now stands at eight-nil and he has now won four amateur titles across the country.

A brilliant year included winning the Australian Amateur Boxing League and Victorian Amateur Boxing League light heavyweight titles.

“We are looking at a fight for Ryan in July,” said Allen.

“Eyes are on some major international events and some of the biggest for youth boxing in the world at the end of the year.

“Those tournaments are in England, Japan and Montenegro.

“Ryan would do two at the most.”

Those in Ryan’s corner as sponsors are IronTide Bendigo, Kazz & Co, Nugget Finder, Outside Box, Royale Roofing and Waterproofing.
