DISTANCE runner Chelsea Tickell is the latest recipient in the Bendigo Sports Star of the Year scholarship.

A member of South Bendigo Athletics Club, Chelsea struck double gold as she represented Bendigo South East Secondary College at the Victorian All Schools field and track championships at Lakeside Stadium.

Racing in the under-15 class, Chelsea won the 1500 meters in 4:49.57 at the South Melbourne track.

A week later she took out the 800-metre final in 2:23.09.

Chelsea represented Bendigo Bats in several rounds of last season’s Victorian cross-country action at St Anne’s Winery in Ravenswood, Cruden Farm, and The Tan relays.

The scholarship intake of 2021 included Chelsea’s brother, Logan who is also starring on the track and cross-country racing.

The eldest of the siblings, Zackery was co-captain of Golden Square’s under-18s footy team which was runner-up this year.

In 1995-96 it was the running feats of Lucas Tickell, father of Zackery, Logan and Chelsea who earned the Cyril Michelsen Trust Fund award.

The upcoming function for Sports Star sponsors on 7 December at Red Energy Arena will include golfing champion and 2020-21 Sports Star of the Year, Lucas Herbert as a special guest.
