Top two clash on Square’s oval

July 12, 2024 BY

IT’S a top of the ladder showdown as Golden Square hosts Castlemaine in Friday night’s start to the 13th round in the Champions IGA-backed CVFL senior women’s footy competition.

Second takes on first at Fur Life Oval in Golden Square from 7.15pm.

Unbeaten in its run to last year’s premiership, Castlemaine has won all 11 matches it has played this season.

The Magpies have been unbeaten since a 34-point loss to Golden Square in a second semi-final on August 28, 2022.

Two weeks later and Castlemaine won the premiership cup in its first CVFL senior women’s season.

In this season’s run the Jordan Cochrane-coached Castlemaine beat Golden Square in the fourth round at Camp Reserve by 62 points.

Players to watch for Castlemaine include Abbey Bertram, Eillish Cumming, Ella Cochrane, Rachael Stubbings and Maeve Tupper.

The Nathan Manuel-coached Golden Square has a 10-1 record.

Golden Square will look for big games from captain Liz Watkins, gun forward Paynton Jolliffe, Molly Forde, Kate Douglass, Carly Geary and Tanya Walsh.

The round will be completed on Sunday when all three matches start at 1pm.

Eaglehawk will be on home turf at Canterbury Park to take on North Bendigo.

A seven-three record has the Hawks holding fourth place on the ladder.

Bendigo Thunder faces Marong at Weeroona Oval in Bendigo’s Napier Street.

Woorinen clashes with Winslow White Hills Demons in Tigers’ territory at Woorinen Recreation Reserve.

Last season’s runner-up, Woorinen dominated its latest match on Marong’s turf.

Sandhurst has the bye.
