ROUND five in Athletics Victoria Shield League field and track action for Bendigo Region clubs will be run under Friday night lights at the Flora Hill complex.

First events at the Retreat Road track will be sprint hurdles at 6pm and it’s the first twilight meet of the 2023-24 season in Bendigo.

A big field program includes pole vault, triple jump, shot put, and javelin while on the track there will be 1500-metre walk, 100, 400 and 1500-metre runs.

Non-scoring events are the 4 x 200-metre relay, and 3000-metre run.

There have been many top performers across the opening four rounds of AVSL in which Eaglehawk has led or being among the top three in premier division.

Athletes to watch for the Two Blues include William Beaton, Tahlia Blight, Dave Chisholm, Catherine Monahan, Isabella Noonan and Scarlett Southern.

South Bendigo has also performed well to hold a top two place in division two.

The Bloods’ squad includes Carol Coad, Joan Self, Oliver Muggleton, and triple national shot put champion Emma Berg.

Bendigo Harriers will be desperate to bank a lot more points this round as it fights to move from division two’s relegation zone.

Key performers for Harriers include Jake Gavriladis, Caitlin and Reeve Evans, Eliza Coutts, Connor Clarke and Anne Buckley.

Although small in entry numbers, Bendigo University has performed well to be pushing for a top-three berth in division five.

David Cripps, Ross Douglas, David Lonsdale, and Grace Mulqueen were among those to represent Uni Pride last round.
