Unbeaten Bendigo faces Steamers in Moama
THE unbeaten Bendigo makes its way to Moama for Saturday’s fifth round of premier division action in Bendigo’s leg of Bendigo Campaspe Goldfields weekend pennant bowls.
Heat will be on the Royals as they chase a fifth consecutive victory against a Moama team on the rebound from a 16-78 to 2-75 defeat on the greens of division newcomer, Marong.
A crucial clash for Bendigo and Moama starts at 1.30pm.
As the Steamers were beaten, Bendigo marked a 17-86 to 1-79 win at home against Eaglehawk in round five.
In a closely-fought contest the Royals’ rinks skipped by Luke Hoskin and Tim Arnold won by two and four shots.
Gary Downie drew 22-all with Simon Carter as Brad Marron marked a one-shot win against Wade Roberts.
The Royals roll into this match as the only unbeaten team and 17 points clear of second-placed South Bendigo.
Another big match will be at Golden Square’s Wade Street where the Bulldogs take on the Diggers from South Bendigo.
A two-two record has Golden Square in fifth place.
The Bulldogs played well in an 86-83 win on Bendigo East’s greens.
The winless Kangaroo Flat is at home against a Marong line-up chasing consecutive victories.
Highs for Marong against Moama were a 10-shot win by Graeme Fawcett against Cameron Keenan, and a seven-shot win for Robert Day against Alex Marshall.
It’s sixth against third as Eaglehawk faces Bendigo East on the Borough’s turf in Simpsons Road.
Both teams will be keen to bounce back from defeat.
