WORLD number one Ash Barty has fallen in her quest for back-to-back grand slams, losing to American Shelby Rogers in the third round of the US Open women’s singles.
The Australian dropped the first set 2-6 before gaining ascendancy in the second to draw level with one set remaining.
Despite Barty holding a commanding 5-2 lead in the third and final set, the 43rd ranked American would rally in front of her home crowd to storm home and win a final set tiebreak to claim victory.
The final score ended up reading 2-6, 6-1, 6-7 (7-5).
The American Grand Slam continues to be Barty’s nemesis, with her again failing to reach the final stages of the tournament.
Barty will next compete at a grand slam when she returns home for the Australian Open in January.
