Vixens ready to blitz Ballarat
TOMORROW is the first day of the Melbourne Vixens’ Ballarat Blitz which will include live matches, clinics and workshops.
Saturday will kick off with netball clinics at CE Brown Reserve with guest appearances from Vixens players before the Victorian Men’s League curtain raiser begins at 1.15pm at Selkirk Stadium.
Following this match, the Giants will take on the Thunderbirds before the Vixens take to the courts at 5pm against the Fever.
Sunday will begin with coaching and umpiring workshops at Selkirk Stadium with the first match of the day, the Giants versus the Fever, to begin at 11am.
The final match of the series will start at 1pm with the Vixens playing the Thunderbirds.
Mayor Cr Des Hudson said he is looking forward to the weekend of sporting action.
“It reinforces Ballarat’s ability to host elite level sport,” he said.
“The Vixens brings netball front and centre and gives kids the opportunity, especially those playing at grassroots, to come along and be really up close.”
The event is also expected to have broader effects in the community.
“It’s part of the building block as well. We expect some visitation and some people to come in who don’t get the opportunity to go to Melbourne to be able to see them,” said Cr Hudson.
“It is about also growing the sport and keeping that enthusiasm there with the ripple effect down to our clubs.”
