Young ballers on national stage
TWO Bendigo basketball young guns will represent their state in the upcoming under-sixteen Australian Junior championships.
Mia Harvey, 13, and Dash Daniels, 14, have been selected for the Country Victoria team which will compete from Sunday 3 July to Sunday 10 July Warwick Stadium in Perth.
Both players are no strangers to high-level basketball, their fathers Ben Harvey and Ricky Daniels are celebrated legends of the Bendigo Braves.
Director of coaches and athlete development at Bendigo Basketball, Joe Hurst, said the selections are signs of Bendigo developing future talent.
“Having these two athletes representing at a national level means heaps for Bendigo basketball because every athlete that represents us at a state, national or international level sets the groundwork for others to follow,” he said.
At just 13 years of age, Harvey said she’s excited to see how she matches up.
“Being a bottom ager, I am looking forward to this opportunity to play against the best in the country, meet new people along the way and play the sport we both love,” she said.
Daniels, the younger brother of NBA prospect Dyson Daniels, said “it’s great representing the state and playing against the best players in the country is exciting.”
