THE City of Greater Bendigo has called for residents to be patient after the delay of its annual grass maintenance program during a transition to new rumoured Melbourne-based contractors.<\/p>\n
Provision of the maintenance program was put out to tender in July and includes grass mowing, slashing and lawn care, edging, weed control (both soft and hard surfaces), litter control and pathway maintenance.<\/p>\n
City of Greater Bendigo parks and open space manager Chris Mitchell said the City is already receiving requests for slashing and mowing from residents and its new contractors are working hard to get to all areas as soon as they possibly can.<\/p>\n
“We anticipate most locations will be attended to in the next two or three weeks,” he promised.<\/p>\n
“Residents with concerns about a particular area can visit the Bendigo Community Compass website and enter the address to see if the area of concern is on the City’s slashing and mowing program.”<\/p>\n
He said the City doesn’t slash and\/or mow every road reserve within the municipality because many country road reserves play an essential role in providing valuable habitats for native animals and contain important indigenous species.<\/p>\n
“It’s also important for the community to know that the City is not the only authority responsible for grass cutting and slashing on Crown Land areas,” he added.<\/p>\n
“Managing vegetation is always very challenging for the City, other responsible authorities, residents and landowner at this time of the year.”<\/p>\n
