THIS week we chat with talented instrumental guitarist Beth Hodson-Clark, who said playing with Phil Emmanuel, Tommy Emmanuel and Simon Hosford are some of the most precious memories from her career so far.<\/p>\n

What motivated you to take up the guitar?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u2019d always loved music and grew up around it.<\/p>\n

Both my parents were encouraging of their children playing music.<\/p>\n

I\u2019d never thought to take up the guitar until my Mum received an electric guitar for Christmas from Dad, (but) she put it (straight) into storage and that was that!<\/p>\n

One day at the age of 14 I was particularly bored, so I grabbed it out of the box and started working out chords and some lead lines.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s how it all started.<\/p>\n

I fell in love with the guitar and have been playing and learning ever since.<\/p>\n

How would you describe your style? <\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u2019m self-taught so I feel that in itself means you develop your own style of playing.<\/p>\n

My style blends elements of blues, rock, pop and a bit of jazz, with an emphasis on expressive playing.<\/p>\n

I like to play popular songs that people know from classics to modern, and I also throw in a few originals.<\/p>\n

I spent years experimenting, learning techniques from different genres, and then adding my own twist.<\/p>\n

I try to bring depth to each note, focusing on feel and authenticity.<\/p>\n

Playing live has also shaped my style.<\/p>\n

Which other guitarists inspire you? <\/strong><\/p>\n

The Beatles and Chet Atkins were my first biggest influences along with Tommy Emmanuel and they continue to influence my playing greatly.<\/p>\n

I also discovered players like Les Paul, Eric Clapton, BB King and so many others around the world today.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s always someone and something to be inspired by.<\/p>\n

What are some highlights you have from your career so far?<\/strong><\/p>\n

There have been some incredible moments, like playing at big shows where the energy of the crowd was just electric!<\/p>\n

I\u2019d have to say playing with Phil Emmanuel, Tommy Emmanuel and Simon Hosford are definitely some of my most precious memories.<\/p>\n

As an instrumentalist I wasn\u2019t sure how I would be received, (but) I\u2019ve been blown away with the support.<\/p>\n

It means so much to me as I play to express myself and hopefully bring joy to people listening, so connection is everything.<\/p>\n

How can people check out some of your music online?<\/strong><\/p>\n

My website and Facebook page are good places to keep up with my latest projects and videos and I also post on Instagram and Tik Tok.<\/p>\n

Do you have any gigs coming up? <\/strong><\/p>\n

I have some gigs coming up which are updated regularly on my social media.<\/p>\n

These include Bendigo District RSL tonight from 7.30pm and The Moonlight Market tomorrow night.<\/p>\n

What would you say to young regional aspiring musicians thinking of making a go of the creative life? <\/strong><\/p>\n

Go for it!<\/p>\n

Being a musician is challenging, but if you love it, there\u2019s nothing more rewarding.<\/p>\n

Work hard, stay true to your style, and don\u2019t be afraid to take risks.<\/p>\n

I believe education is very important.<\/p>\n

Make sure you\u2019re setting your future up for multiple possibilities – give yourself every opportunity to succeed and live a happy life.<\/p>\n

A lot of fantastic musicians I have played with over the years have successful careers as doctors, business owners, educators and more!<\/p>\n
