{"id":100752,"date":"2024-11-29T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-11-28T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/?p=100752"},"modified":"2024-11-30T10:13:42","modified_gmt":"2024-11-29T23:13:42","slug":"hume-keeps-racking-up-physique-titles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/sport\/hume-keeps-racking-up-physique-titles\/","title":{"rendered":"Hume keeps racking up physique titles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>IN A career-best run on this year&#8217;s bodybuilding circuit, Bendigo&#8217;s James Hume kept on racking up physique titles.<\/p>\n<p>The 23-year-old has now won more than 30 titles across the past six years.<\/p>\n<p>Latest show was the PCA event in Melbourne where he was the junior (under-23) and Overall Physique Mr Australia.<\/p>\n<p>Hume&#8217;s drive for success was capped by being crowned the Natbod National Junior and Overall Classic Physique; OCB Supernatural Classic Physique Junior and Overall Mr Oceania; and NBA Classic Physique PRO Mr Australia in &#8217;24.<\/p>\n<p>The lead-up to an exhaustive run of natural bodybuilding shows included many hours training at Silverback Gym.<\/p>\n<p>Although he has no coach or nutritionist, Hume&#8217;s physique wowed judges and fans.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The adrenalin rush when on stage makes all the work worth it,&#8221; Hume said.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Australia, Hume grew up in England.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Hockey and rugby union were the two sports I played a lot,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Multiple concussions across two or three years put an end to contact sport.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_100856\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-100856\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-100856 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2024\/11\/Untitled-design49-1-1024x538.jpg?_t=1732921970\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"336\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2024\/11\/Untitled-design49-1-1024x538.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2024\/11\/Untitled-design49-1-300x158.jpg 300w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2024\/11\/Untitled-design49-1-768x403.jpg 768w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2024\/11\/Untitled-design49-1.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-100856\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Putting the work in: James Hume training at Silverback Gym. Photos: DANIEL SONCIN<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I could have kept playing, but doctors told me it would be dangerous to do so and I was also having some memory issues.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It was then the focus turned to weight training.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I had done some sessions in the gym for union,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Being at the gym helped me so much, not just in building fitness and strength, but my mental health, too.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>His first bodybuilding show was at the age of 17 in the fitness model category. At 19 he won his first English title and the drive to compete was on.<\/p>\n<p>Hume returned to Australia when he was 20 and a year later had his first pro bodybuilding card.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Being in team sport was great, but as a bodybuilder it&#8217;s all about what I do,&#8221; he said. &#8220;If you are not working hard then the results won&#8217;t happen.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Hume has competed in various categories, but it&#8217;s Classic Physique where he has excelled.<\/p>\n<p>He may not be the biggest on stage, but so many factors are considered by judges. Symmetry is crucial.<\/p>\n<p>Career highs include last year&#8217;s shows in the United States.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 601px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2024\/11\/humebody003_25364.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"601\" height=\"409\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The 23-year-old took up weight training after multiple concussions meant an end to playing hockey and rugby union.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He was the youngest in Australia&#8217;s team and was runner-up at the World Cup in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n<p>Hume was among 39 contenders in the pro classic physique show at Mr Olympia in Las Vegas.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was an incredible experience and I learnt so much,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A goal is more national titles to qualify for next year&#8217;s World Cup and Mr Olympia.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Away from the gym, Hume is a banking consultant for ANZ, and also works at Deck.<\/p>\n<p>When at Silverback,. there&#8217;s plenty of dumbel curls, leg extensions, reps on the chest supported row, and more as Hume builds toward next season and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>Sponsorship is also an area to tap into.
