	{"id":100976,"date":"2024-12-06T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-12-05T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/?p=100976"},"modified":"2024-12-05T00:36:41","modified_gmt":"2024-12-04T13:36:41","slug":"young-chef-writing-recipe-for-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/news\/young-chef-writing-recipe-for-success\/","title":{"rendered":"Young chef writing recipe for success"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>STRATHFIELDSAYE apprentice chef Lucy Daley has been handed the opportunity of a lifetime after being named as one of thirty-two finalists in the national Proud to be a Chef 2025 program.<\/p>\n<p>Daley currently works at the popular Woodhouse Bar &amp; Grill in Williamson Street.<\/p>\n<p>As part of becoming a finalist, she&#8217;ll attend an all-expenses-paid four-day trip to Melbourne next February alongside mentors Angelica Iuliano from iconic Melbourne Spanish diner MoVida and former Masterchef judge George Calombaris.<\/p>\n<p>After the four days, the finalist judged to have shown the most growth and passion will be awarded a scholarship worth over $7500 to the culinary institute of their choice.<\/p>\n<p>Daley said she&#8217;s been interested to become a chef since she was a child, sharing a love of cooking with her dad.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He would (always) let me experiment so I was never per se banned from the kitchen,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He was never one to shy away; if I wanted to learn something he would show me.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2024\/12\/mlu_1209_31007.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"574\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Epicurean adventure: Lucy Daley will take part in a host of masterclasses, tours and networking events in February as part of the Proud to be a Chef program. Photos: AJ TAYLOR<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>She got her start under head chef and owner Paul Pitcher at the Woodhouse while still at school around two and a half years ago and has never looked back.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I started there as a work placement and after that they offered me the apprenticeship, so I took it and started working every Saturday,&#8221; Daley said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When I finished school they offered me a full time apprenticeship and I leapt at it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As her experience has grown, Daley said her tasks at work now involve a mix of everything.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I started off on larder and as I progressed they put me on harder stages, so as of now I can complete most of the things at Woodhouse,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>The best thing about being a chef for Daley is &#8220;the thrill of it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Also the experimentation. If you&#8217;re cooking at home you can try a little bit of this and a little bit of that.
