BENDIGO’s long-time athletics and cycling hub the Tom Flood Sports Centre has undergone a series of upgrades, thanks in part to a $759,000 investment from the State Government.<\/p>\n

The newly improved venue also hosts local school carnivals, live music and community festivals and is a popular spot for other forms of entertainment.<\/p>\n

The project installed 300 lux LED lighting to the cycling track and 200 lux LED lighting to the sports field, while cycling track works included acrylic treatment, line marking, upgrades to fencing and entrance\/exit gates.<\/p>\n

Member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards said grassroots sport is the lifeblood of regional cities and more than ever clubs need quality facilities they can depend on.<\/p>\n

“The new facilities are a boon for local sport and will help secure Tom Flood Sports Centre’s reputation as the place for cycling and athletics in Bendigo,” she said.<\/p>\n

“These improvements will also inspire even more locals to get active and join in the fun at this iconic venue in the heart of Bendigo.”<\/p>\n

The funds were drawn from the Victorian Government’s Local Community Sport and Recreation Projects initiative.<\/p>\n

Over the past decade more than $2.3 billion has been put into community sport and recreation infrastructure by the State Government.<\/p>\n

This comes on the back of recent news that the Bendigo International Madison, historically held at Tom Flood will not continue in 2025, with spokesperson Rik McCaig explaining it’s no longer feasible to conduct the event to the standards it has always upheld.<\/p>\n
