ONE hundred schools around Victoria have received a State Government grant to encourage students to get active.<\/p>\n
Active Schools Grants of $30,000 were awarded as part of the active schools initiative to primary, P-12, secondary and specialist schools across the state.<\/p>\n
“We want kids to learn healthy habits at school \u2013 even 15 minutes of physical activity can be all it takes to boost the overall wellbeing of our children,” Minister for Education Ben Carroll said.<\/p>\n
“The Active Schools Program is a great program to help young people find an activity they love that helps them maintain an active and healthy lifestyle.”<\/p>\n
Since the initiative launched in 2020, up to 500 schools have benefited from the program by upskilling PE teachers, purchasing sports equipment, building outdoor learning spaces, upgrading playgrounds, and implementing programs such as bicycle education or dance.<\/p>\n
“I congratulate the successful schools involved for their contributions to keeping young Victorians active and engaged with sport, fostering the next generation of Sam Kerrs or Patty Mills,” said Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence.<\/p>\n
A further 300 State Government schools will receive a $3,000 an active schools PE and sport grant next year.<\/p>\n
This will help them with the cost of physical education, sport and outdoor education.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
