THALES Australia has been contracted by the Federal Government to build more than forty Bushmaster Protected Mobility Vehicles in Bendigo in a deal worth over one hundred million dollars that is set to underpin approximately two hundred and fifty local jobs.<\/p>\n
The vehicles will be used by the Australian Army’s second long-range fires regiment, based at the Edinburgh Defence Precinct in South Australia, and will support a multi-mission phased array radar battery to provide critical command and control functions.<\/p>\n
The Bushmaster is the protected mobility platform of choice for nine countries, offering world-class protection and mobility for their troops.<\/p>\n
Minister for Defence Industry and Capability Delivery Pat Conroy said the new vehicles will contribute to the acceleration of a land-based long-range strike capability for the Army, demonstrating a commitment to modernising the Australian Defence Force.<\/p>\n
“This contract underscores the Albanese Government’s commitment to providing the Australian Defence Force with the capabilities and equipment it needs to keep Australians safe,” he said.<\/p>\n
“This additional investment will support hundreds of jobs, underscoring the Albanese Government’s commitment not only to the people of the Bendigo region but to building Australia’s future.”<\/p>\n
Federal Member for Bendigo Lisa Chesters said prior to the last Federal election Thales Bendigo was at risk of closure, and the government’s investment in more Bushmasters has saved the site and ensured the long-term sustainability of defence industry jobs.<\/p>\n
