{"id":101929,"date":"2025-02-01T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-01-31T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/?p=101929"},"modified":"2025-01-29T23:26:54","modified_gmt":"2025-01-29T12:26:54","slug":"open-day-launches-stations-digital-studio","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/news\/open-day-launches-stations-digital-studio\/","title":{"rendered":"Open day launches station&#8217;s digital studio"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE new digital broadcasting panel at community radio station Phoenix FM has been officially unveiled at an open day on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Victorian Premier and Member for Bendigo East Jacinta Allan visited the event and publicly launched the studio, which has been in use since last June.<\/p>\n<p>Known as Studio One, the facility replaces a Falcon analogue panel, which Phoenix FM business manager Anne Conway said had been in use for many years.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But as time went by we were in an increasingly vulnerable situation as parts were no longer available nor were the panels being manufactured,&#8221; Ms Conway said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2025\/02\/PhoenixFMStaffPlanni_36735.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"505\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Phoenix FM staff are all smiles at a recent planning meeting for the open day.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Digital was obviously the way to go in anticipation of the eventual digital roll-out to our region, but as an entirely volunteer-run not-for-profit organisation, options were limited.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In the lead-up to the 2022 state election, Ms Allan \u2013 deputy Premier at the time \u2013 spearheaded a push to secure an election promise of $50,000 for the station.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In 2024 we were thrilled beyond belief to receive a $50,000 grant from the Victorian State Labor Government,&#8221; Ms Conway said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That funding, combined with our own resources, enabled us to conduct a $76,000 upgrade to our Studio One.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ms Conway described the Phoenix FM story as one of triumph over initial adversity and a testament to the hard work of its volunteers and the support of the community.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2025\/02\/PhoenixFMStudioPanel_39349.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"498\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The digital broadcasting system at Phoenix FM&#8217;s Studio One.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Whilst digital broadcasting has not, as yet, been rolled out in our region, we are ready for it when it happens and in the meantime we have a state-of-the-art studio which our presenters find a delight to use.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>When the studio went live last year, Phoenix FM committee member and technical adviser Peter Williams described the new equipment as worldwide industry standard broadcast equipment.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The audio becomes completely lossless, and that means that whatever the audio quality is that you put in is what you hear on your radio,&#8221; Mr Williams said at the time.<\/p>\n<p>Phoenix FM&#8217;s second studio remains an analog system and is being used now mainly for pre-recording of programs, which Mr Williams said was the method some presenters preferred in preparing their shows.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE new digital broadcasting panel at community radio station Phoenix FM has been officially unveiled at an open day on Wednesday.
