THE City of Greater Bendigo has decided to rename and register its transfer stations at Strathfieldsaye’s Wellington Street, Goornong’s Englishs Road and Heathcote’s Golden Gully Road as “recycling centres” in an attempt to make their purpose clearer to members of the community.<\/p>\n

COGB resource recovery and education manager Bridgette McDougall said it is the City’s position that the term “transfer station” no longer reflects the purpose of the facilities and the services they offer and provide to the community.<\/p>\n

“The proposed name change will help encourage the community to identify reusables and recyclables at home and maximise resource recovery at the three local centres,” she said.<\/p>\n

“It will also help reframe the Strathfieldsaye and Heathcote centres as places to find and buy items for re-use or re-purposing.”<\/p>\n

Members of the community are invited to provide submissions of support or objections to the proposed new names via the Let’s Talk Greater Bendigo website.<\/p>\n

All submissions must comply with Naming rules for places in Victoria – Statutory requirements for naming roads, features and localities – 2022.<\/p>\n

At a minimum, submissions or objections should explain the person’s or group’s interest in the naming proposal – for example if their address is affected or whether they have a personal link with the place and\/or name.<\/p>\n

Reasons for the name being appropriate\/inappropriate, suitable\/unsuitable or supported\/unsupported must also be supplied. All submissions must be received by February 23, 2025.<\/p>\n
