MUSICAL comedian, satirist, composer and writer Sammy J brings his fledgling new show The Kangaroo Effect to the Capital next month.<\/p>\n

The show’s premise is based on a yarn where the performer walked into a mate’s 40th birthday accidentally dressed as a kangaroo.<\/p>\n

“It was a humiliating moment, and in this show I trace all the events in my life that led up to it,” he said.<\/p>\n

Its upcoming performance in Bendigo, billed as “a time-bending memoir that bounces through the life of a recovering attention seeker via song, stories and VHS tapes”, will act as an advance showing before Sammy’s capital city tour in March and April.<\/p>\n

Known to his family as Samuel Jonathan McMillan, the former ABC Melbourne breakfast presenter became Sammy J for Hey Hey It’s Saturday’s Red Faces way back in 1999.<\/p>\n

He went on to win the Best Newcomer award at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2006, the Age Critics’ Award (with Randy puppeteer Heath McIvor) at the festival in 2008, and the Barry Award for Most Outstanding Show (again with McIvor) in 2010.<\/p>\n

“I’m a history nerd first and a comedian second, so I can’t wait to return to Bendigo and drop into some museums and galleries before hitting the stage,” J said.<\/p>\n

“I’m genuinely thrilled to be kicking off with a sneaky preview in the goldfields.”<\/p>\n

Sammy J: The Kangaroo Effect \u2013 Special Preview takes place on Friday 28 February.<\/p>\n
