THE Indian Association of Bendigo has been awarded the maximum amount available of $100,000 via the latest round of the Federal Government’s Multicultural Grassroots lnitiatives.<\/p>\n

The funds will be used by the organisation to undertake a series of cultural and intercultural activities designed to improve community wellbeing and boost social participation in multicultural communities.<\/p>\n

These include a sports program focussed on swimming\/aquatic safety, as well as a range of initiatives designed for youth, parents and gender-specific activities.<\/p>\n

Community service projects, cultural exchange days and discussion groups that promote stronger bonds among community members and increase connection and collaboration are also planned.<\/p>\n

Welcoming the contribution, Indian Association of Bendigo secretary Ajay Mishra said the funding will significantly enhance community participation by eliminating any existing financial barriers that may deter people from participating.<\/p>\n

“This program further encourages individuals from diverse demographics to engage, participate, and demonstrate to all community members that Greater Bendigo is a place where multicultural communities can safely connect with their cultural and religious identities,” he said.<\/p>\n

Within her time as the Federal Member for Bendigo, Lisa Chesters said she has seen Bendigo grow and diversify into the multicultural community it is.<\/p>\n

“I’m so pleased to see the Indian Association of Bendigo were successful in this grant process so they can continue teaching and celebrating their culture with the wider Bendigo community,” she said.<\/p>\n
