A SKATEPARK first proposed in 2017 has received Labor and Coalition Federal election commitments of $500,000 for its construction.<\/p>\n
The City of Greater Bendigo is to contribute the balance of its $1.3 million total cost.<\/p>\n
Located on the Bendigo Creek Trail between the Gurri Wanyarra Wellbeing Centre and Gateway Park, it will feature different areas to accommodate all skill levels, including a beginner area suited to younger users and a street-style park for more experienced skaters and bike\/scooter riders.<\/p>\n
Amenities such as seating, shelters, drink fountains and BBQ facilities are also planned for installation.<\/p>\n
Federal Member for Bendigo Lisa Chesters said the new park will provide a safe space for locals to get active in an area of Bendigo that is “crying out” for more activities for young people.<\/p>\n
“This is such a great project that is good for people’s physical and mental health,” she said.<\/p>\n
Liberal candidate Matt Evans and Nationals candidate Andrew Lethlean have also backed the project, at the same time announcing a further $750,000 commitment towards improvements at the Kyneton Skatepark.<\/p>\n
Mr Lethlean added that both parks are “fantastic examples” of how governments and communities can work together to deliver real outcomes for young people.<\/p>\n
