A DANGER zone at the intersection of Marong Road and Schumakers Lane in Maiden Gully will receive $260,000 in upgrades to make it safer in low light and dark conditions as part of the Federal Government’s 2025-26 Black Spot Program.<\/p>\n
Crashes have been occurring at the site during these conditions as drivers on Marong Road fail to see the intersection.<\/p>\n
The Black Spot Program provides financial support for low-cost safety improvements such as roundabouts, traffic signals, safety barriers, raised crossings, speed humps and improved kerbing.<\/p>\n
Assistant Minister for Regional Development Anthony Chisholm said removing black spots across Australia’s road network is a major part of the Government’s aim to work with states and territories to fund priority road safety works they identify.<\/p>\n
“We recently announced our significant boost to road safety funding, which included a commitment to increase annual Black Spot Program funding to $150 million from next year,” he said.<\/p>\n
“The program is driven by communities, for communities. So I encourage anyone who knows of a black spot near them to consider nominating that site for investigation.”<\/p>\n
Federal Member for Bendigo Lisa Chesters said the Bendigo electorate has received $7,631,765 via the Black Spot Program since the last Federal election.<\/p>\n
“Our Government’s significant boost in funding to the program is making a real difference to improving local road safety,” she said.<\/p>\n
In late March, over $400,000 was earmarked to fund safety improvements to the intersections of Jobs Gully and Avery Roads in Eaglehawk and Garsed and Arthur streets in Bendigo.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
