{"id":105052,"date":"2025-06-08T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-06-07T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/?p=105052"},"modified":"2025-06-07T16:48:40","modified_gmt":"2025-06-07T06:48:40","slug":"queer-film-festival-honoured-at-victorian-pride-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/living\/queer-film-festival-honoured-at-victorian-pride-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"Queer Film Festival honoured at Victorian Pride Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Bendigo Queer Film Festival (BQFF) has been awarded GLOBE Victoria&#8217;s Victorian Pride Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Arts, acknowledging its significant impact in celebrating LGBTQIA+ communities for over 20 years.<\/p>\n<p>Established in 2004, BQFF is Australia&#8217;s longest-running regional queer film festival.<\/p>\n<p>The award recognises individuals or organisations that celebrate LGBTQIA+ communities through their artistic endeavours.<\/p>\n<p>Former festival director Chris Butler said the acknowledgment highlights the importance of regional arts in the community.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Growing up and living in regional Victoria, it&#8217;s hard to find yourself represented at events,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This film festival has provided that opportunity and is an amazing experience.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>BQFF founder Chris Walters also expressed her excitement about the recognition.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We started the festival to support our rainbow community and to foster visibility and understanding among the general public,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Its success is due to the many dedicated volunteers who have given their time over the years.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I thank everyone who has helped grow the Festival from its humble beginnings to what it is today.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The current BQFF organisers dedicated the accolade to the numerous volunteers, both past and present, whose contributions have made the Festival possible.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This honour reflects the heart and dedication of everyone who has invested their time, love, and effort into the Bendigo Queer Film Festival,&#8221; incumbent committee member Tash Joyce said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It demonstrates that regional pride events can create real and lasting change, and we are so proud that Bendigo is a part of that.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The 2025 Bendigo Queer Film Festival will take place on Friday 18 and Saturday 19 July at the Beehive Building in Pall Mall.<\/p>\n<p>Find out more on the <a href=\"http:\/\/bendigoqueerfilmfestival.com.au\">Festival website<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Bendigo Queer Film Festival (BQFF) has been awarded GLOBE Victoria&#8217;s Victorian Pride Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Arts, acknowledging its significant impact in celebrating LGBTQIA+ communities for over 20 years.
