Mr Beekes made no specific comment on his individual award, but he did speak about the Regional Mental and Social Wellbeing accolade.<\/p>\n
He said the club provided vital support to the local veteran community through its welfare advocacy program, which offers assistance with mental health, housing, medical needs and social wellbeing.<\/p>\n
“Backed by over 250 volunteers and dedicated staff, BDRSL delivered nearly 10,000 hours of service in 2024 and has built strong partnerships with more than 46 health and community providers to ensure tailored, timely support,” he said.<\/p>\n
“A key initiative involved personally contacting nearly 900 veterans to check in and offer help, with 20 per cent requiring follow-up support for issues like isolation, grief, physical limitations, and DVA-related concerns.<\/p>\n
“Financial aid is also provided where needed including food vouchers, relocation support, and emergency expenses.<\/p>\n
“The RSL also ensures veterans receive appropriate honours through its Funeral Ritual, while continuing to reach out to those in nursing homes and supported accommodation.”<\/p>\n
