{"id":106243,"date":"2025-07-19T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-07-18T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/?p=106243"},"modified":"2025-07-17T15:16:24","modified_gmt":"2025-07-17T05:16:24","slug":"build-preparations-start-at-old-teachers-college-grounds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/news\/build-preparations-start-at-old-teachers-college-grounds\/","title":{"rendered":"Build preparations start at old Teachers&#8217; College grounds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>EARLY works are underway at the former Bendigo Teachers&#8217; College site in Osborne Street, Flora Hill to deliver approximately 160 new homes.<\/p>\n<p>Construction is expected to begin in 2027 and the new housing complex will provide around 56 social and affordable dwellings.<\/p>\n<p>The first phase of the works includes installing solid hoarding and removing outdated infrastructure such as paving, with the historic Eumana House situated on the grounds (built in 1904) to be retained and incorporated with the new residential community.<\/p>\n<p>Construction is being carried out by local contractors, with subcontracting going exclusively to regional businesses.<\/p>\n<p>Development Victoria will continue to engage with the City of Greater Bendigo, Homes Victoria and the Dja Dja Wurrung Clans Aboriginal Corporation and provide updates to the local community as the project progresses. &#8220;These early works mark a major milestone for the project, as we get on with transforming underutilised government land into a new community for regional Victorians,&#8221; Minister for Development Victoria and Precincts Harriet Shing said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;More homes mean more opportunities \u2013 and we are getting on repurposing unused land to build homes for Victorians.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Premier and Member for Bendigo East Jacinta Allan said Flora Hill has an important role to play.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Flora Hill&#8230; is supporting the growing housing needs of Greater Bendigo \u2013 helping more people live closer to jobs, education and public transport,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>The Osborne Street location was the proposed local site of the Athletes Village for the now-defunct 2026 Regional Victorian Commonwealth Games.<\/p>\n<p>Visit the <a href=\"http:\/\/development.vic.gov.au\/projects\/flora-hill?page=overview\">Development Victoria website<\/a> for further information.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>EARLY works are underway at the former Bendigo Teachers&#8217; College site in Osborne Street, Flora Hill to deliver approximately 160 new homes.
