{"id":106512,"date":"2025-07-25T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-07-24T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/?p=106512"},"modified":"2025-07-23T23:02:12","modified_gmt":"2025-07-23T13:02:12","slug":"hawks-magpies-kick-off-pride-round","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/sport\/hawks-magpies-kick-off-pride-round\/","title":{"rendered":"Hawks, Magpies kick off Pride Round"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A MATCH between Eaglehawk and Castlemaine kicks off Pride Round in Friday night&#8217;s start to the Champions IGA-backed AFLCV senior women&#8217;s footy competition.<\/p>\n<p>The 15th round is one of the most significant in the league&#8217;s season as it shows its support for the LGBTQ+ community.<\/p>\n<p>On the field the Hawks and Magpies will play at Eaglehawk&#8217;s Canterbury Park from 7.15pm as third takes on first in a crucial showdown in a home-and-away series of 18 rounds.<\/p>\n<p>A high level of defensive pressure will be a goal for the Molly Metcalf-coached Eaglehawk against an opponent which has a 10-1 record in its pursuit of a fourth consecutive premiership.<\/p>\n<p>When these clubs met in round nine it was Castlemaine which marked a 60-33 victory on its turf at Camp Reserve against the Two Blues.<\/p>\n<p>Key players for Eaglehawk include Sophie Cullen, Lucy El Hage, Shelby Faulkner, Emily Field, Kelly Mensforth and Molly Pianta.<\/p>\n<p>The Hawks&#8217; defence is up against a powerful attack.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2025\/07\/CastlemainesMaeveTu_14763.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Castlemaine&#8217;s Maeve Tupper on the attack for the Magpies. Photos: SAA IMAGING<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Players to watch for the Jordan Cochrane-coached Castlemaine include Brianna Burt, Jemma Finning, Eloise Gretgrix, Taylah Sartori, and Aisling and Maeve Tupper.<\/p>\n<p>Pride Round will be completed with three matches on Sunday from 1pm.<\/p>\n<p>A tough run for North Bendigo rolls on as the Bulldogs meet Sandhurst at Bendigo Club Oval in North Bendigo&#8217;s Atkins Street.<\/p>\n<p>The Jaydene Burzacott and Zak Carter-coached North Bendigo was at home for last Saturday night&#8217;s clash with Castlemaine.<\/p>\n<p>A highlight of Sandhurst&#8217;s season was breaking Castlemaine&#8217;s winning streak in a 68-60 result at Camp Reserve in the 10th round.<\/p>\n<p>The Sandhurst team is jointly coached by Andrew Saladino and Liam Ireland.<\/p>\n<p>Winslow Constructors White Hills Demons will be back in their Scott Street den to play the Marong Panthers.<\/p>\n<p>Golden Square and Bendigo Thunder meet on the Bulldogs&#8217; turf in Golden Square&#8217;s Wade Street.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A MATCH between Eaglehawk and Castlemaine kicks off Pride Round in Friday night&#8217;s start to the Champions IGA-backed AFLCV senior women&#8217;s footy competition.
