THE City of Greater Bendigo has made further comment on the recent news of Qantas’ decision to retire its five-times-per-week 6.45am flight from Bendigo.<\/p>\n
According to a spokesperson, Qantas advised the City it amended the Bendigo-Sydney flight schedule to meet the needs of customers, based on the 24 per cent increase of passenger numbers along the route in 2024-2025.<\/p>\n
The spokesperson said the City is supportive of Qantas’ decision.<\/p>\n
“Importantly, the revised schedule maintains a daily connection between Bendigo and Sydney, ensuring continued access to Qantas’ extensive domestic network \u2013 including flights to Brisbane, the Gold Coast, and the Sunshine Coast \u2013 as well as international services,” they said.<\/p>\n
“The City remains committed to advocating for additional services from Bendigo Airport to other destinations, recognising the vital role expanded connectivity plays in supporting our growing local economy.”<\/p>\n
Be.Bendigo CEO Hayley Tibbett urged Australia’s largest airline, which is valued at $17.5 billion on the Australian Stock Exchange, to work with her organisation to “find a balance that supports both business and leisure travellers.”<\/p>\n
“This route was built on the needs of the business community, enabling same-day travel to and from Sydney,” she said.<\/p>\n
“The new schedule removes that option, disadvantaging local businesses that rely on it to maintain client relationships and compete nationally.”<\/p>\n
The revised schedule will include turnaround flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, departing Sydney at 1.25pm on flight days, arriving in Bendigo at approximately 3pm, and returning to Sydney by around 5pm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
