BENDIGO’s Discovery Science and Technology Centre has celebrated National Science Week with the delivery of a new program, Jurassic Wonders.<\/p>\n
Funded through the National Science Week Grants Program, Jurassic Wonders was developed to transport visitors back to the age of the dinosaurs with interactive exhibits, hands-on fossil activities and immersive educational experiences designed to spark curiosity in science, palaeontology and natural history.<\/p>\n
The $10,385 grant was one of more than 31 awarded by the Federal Government to support innovative and inclusive community-led science initiatives during Science Week.<\/p>\n
It enabled the centre to provide Auslan interpreters for special sessions of the program, increasing accessibility to deaf or hard of hearing children.<\/p>\n
“This grant helps bring world-class STEM engagement to the Central Victorian community, encouraging our next generation of scientists and innovators,” Federal Member for Bendigo Lisa Chesters said.<\/p>\n
“The Discovery Centre is one of our region’s greatest education assets, and Jurassic Wonders will give children and families an unforgettable way to connect with science and the prehistoric world.”<\/p>\n
Discovery Science and Technology Centre general manager Alissa Van Soest said Science Week is their Christmas.<\/p>\n
“It’s about bringing the community along to join us in celebrating all things science,” she said.<\/p>\n
“Dinosaur events are hugely popular with kids and for many of them are their introduction to science.<\/p>\n
“Science is all around us all the time, but a lot of adults are intimidated by it \u2013 National Science Week shows people the fun that’s in the science of the everyday and shows people that we’re all scientists.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
