LOCAL artist Garry Taylor will be on site at Dudley House in View Street over the weekend to show art-lovers around his new solo exhibition, Still.<\/p>\n
The exhibition combines several of his older works with a series of newer paintings created for the show.<\/p>\n
Born in Heathcote, Taylor, who said he’s always “been obsessed” with drawing, began his practice in the 1980s focussing on the natural world – birds, plants and insects – before crossing to still life imagery.<\/p>\n
“I use gouache, watercolour, pencil and ink to achieve my pictures,” he said.<\/p>\n
“Traditional realism is how I would describe my work (and) sometimes it will have a touch of surrealism in it.”<\/p>\n
Taylor said the element he enjoys the most about making his finely detailed art is the opportunity to express himself.<\/p>\n
“It’s also very rhythmical and it’s almost like while you’re painting, you feel mesmerised,” he said.<\/p>\n
“I work on one painting at a time for two hours every afternoon and they take perhaps a week to finish.”<\/p>\n
He invited “anyone who’s interested in art” to come and say hello, and potentially make a purchase, over the next few days.<\/p>\n
“I can’t guarantee that everyone will like my paintings but I’m confident that my work is of a good standard,” he said.<\/p>\n
“If you like realism in art, I would encourage people to come and see it.”<\/p>\n
Still by Garry Taylor continues until Sunday at Dudley House, 60 View Street. Doors are open from 9am to 5pm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
