THE City of Greater Bendigo has invited local residents to provide feedback on its new draft Procurement Policy, which outlines how it buys goods and services and undertakes work, and details what needs to be considered before making purchasing decisions.<\/p>\n

Councillors, City employees and all contractors, plus agents and consultants engaged by the City are required to abide by the policy.<\/p>\n

The principles set out in the document cover value for money, open and fair competition, accountability, risk management and transparency.<\/p>\n

The purpose of the policy is to provide a framework to guide the efficient, effective, socially and ecologically responsible procurement of goods, services and works for the City, as well as provide guidance to allow consistency and control over procurement activities.<\/p>\n

It’s also meant to provide guidance to City employees regarding ethical behaviour in public sector purchasing and demonstrate accountability to ratepayers.<\/p>\n

City director corporate performance Angela Hays said the City’s policy must be reviewed at least once during each term of council at a minimum, with the last review occurring in 2021.<\/p>\n

“A draft policy has been developed, and public consultation has opened for feedback on the City’s engagement platform Let’s Talk Greater Bendigo,” she said.<\/p>\n

“The City has a responsibility to be transparent and accountable and must obtain the best value for goods and services.<\/p>\n

“The draft procurement policy sets out all of the things that must be considered.”<\/p>\n

The survey is open until Monday October 6.<\/p>\n
