THE Greater Bendigo Seniors Festival – which runs from Sunday 5 October to Sunday 12 October – is almost upon us, with a wall-to-wall program of events available to locals.<\/p>\n

This year’s main festival showcase event is the Johnny Cash and June Carter Tribute Show, presented courtesy of the City and the Victorian Government.<\/p>\n

The show features husband and wife duo Mark and Joanne Caligiuri, who will perform favourites such as Folsom Prison Blues, Ring of Fire and Walk the Line, as well as popular duets including Jackson and Long-legged Guitar Pickin Man.<\/p>\n

The concert is set to take place at 11am on Monday 6 October at the Capital in View Street.<\/p>\n

Tickets are available for only $10 and are on sale now at the Capital Box Office or can be purchased via the GoTix website.<\/p>\n

Other events include workshops and information sessions, free film screenings, morning and afternoon teas, performances, exercise and self defence programs, come and try days, dancing and live music.<\/p>\n

City of Greater Bendigo mayor Cr Andrea Metcalf announced that the theme for this year is Connect, Create, Celebrate.<\/p>\n

“This year’s program is packed with a diverse range of either free or low-cost events, with something for everyone,” she said.<\/p>\n

“This is a fantastic opportunity for older adults to get involved and try something different and I encourage them to grab a program, get involved and enjoy the activities on offer.”<\/p>\n

Victorian Seniors Card holders can also take advantage of eight days of free public transport on all regional bus services, V-Line bus and train services and all Metropolitan train, tram and bus services during the Festival.<\/p>\n

A copy of the program can be picked up from the City’s Heathcote and Bendigo customer service and visitor centres, local libraries and neighbourhood houses, and it can be viewed online<\/a> too.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
