THE City of Greater Bendigo has commenced the installation of a new practice half court to cater to soccer, basketball and netball players at Axedale Park, located on the corner of Mitchell Street and the McIvor Highway in Axedale.<\/p>\n
The project will include the pouring of an acrylic coated concrete half court and lines being laid, as well as the construction of a combined basketball and soccer unit, a netball goal pole, some partial perimeter fencing and bench seating.<\/p>\n
City of Greater Bendigo presentation and assets director Brian Westley said the new facility is an investment in Axedale that will add to the many other features in the park.<\/p>\n
“Axedale Park is a suburban level play space with barbecue and picnic facilities, public toilets, a junior skate park and play equipment,” Mr Westley said.<\/p>\n
The junior skate park sports a quarter pipe at one end, a box and two rails which are curved and straight.<\/p>\n
“Half courts are really popular and when completed we expect it will be quite a draw card for Axedale Park.”<\/p>\n
The $100,000 project is being funded with a $50,000 grant from the Tiny Towns Fund and $50,000 from the City of Greater Bendigo.<\/p>\n
The Tiny Towns Fund is a State Government initiative, administered by Regional Development Victoria to support communities with populations under 5,000 people (the 2021 Census found Axedale had 954 residents at the time).<\/p>\n
