THE Eaglehawk Recycle Shop (ERS) will transition to operating under the management of the City of Greater Bendigo after the not-for-profit business announced its exit from the site early this month.<\/p>\n
In a statement made available online, the shop’s management said rising operational costs and the inability to secure funding from the City had made it unsustainable to continue.<\/p>\n
“Over the past 30 years, we have successfully diverted waste from landfill, and provided low-cost items for sale to the Bendigo community,” the statement read.<\/p>\n
“We have employed numerous staff and provided valuable training and a platform for further employment.<\/p>\n
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our incredible staff and the Bendigo community for their unwavering support over the journey and through this difficult period.<\/p>\n
“Together, we have built a proud social enterprise that has positively impacted our community.”<\/p>\n
In response, the City issued a statement “to reassure residents that the City remains committed to ensuring a similar level of service is provided from this site moving forward.”<\/p>\n
“From November 1, 2025, the City of Greater Bendigo will take over the management and operation of the Eaglehawk Recycle Centre,” it announced in the media release.<\/p>\n
“Following recent discussions between the City and the ERS Board, agreement has been reached ERS will conclude its operations at the end of October.<\/p>\n
“Both parties are committed to ensuring a smooth transition for the community and staff.<\/p>\n
“The City acknowledges the significant contribution ERS has made to the local community and the environment over many years.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
