The start of works come with the BJC still on a high from last week’s triumphant cup day.<\/p>\n
This year’s crowd figure of 6528 eclipsed last year’s attendance and followed a 14 per cent increase from 2023 to 2024.<\/p>\n
With near perfect weather, world-class entertainment, and a thrilling Group 3 Ladbrokes Bendigo Cup, won by the Ciaron Maher-trained Melbourne Cup-bound Sayedaty Sadaty, the event delivered an outstanding experience for the community.<\/p>\n
The atmosphere was lifted by a performance by Australian award-winning violinist, and Central Victorian local, Evangeline Victoria, whose stirring rendition of the National Anthem captivated the crowd and set the tone for a truly memorable day.<\/p>\n
On the track, adopted local Harry Coffey, the nephew of Bendigo trainer Shane Fliedner, captured his third Bendigo Cup in four years with a brilliant ride aboard the winner.<\/p>\n
Flying the flag for the locals, the Arthur Pace-trained Raging Bull finished third in the cup at the long odds of 60-1.<\/p>\n
Scullie said Raging Bull’s performance was a thrill for all involved in Bendigo racing, none more so than the veteran trainer himself, daughter Courtney and the seven-year-old gelding’s Bendigo connections.<\/p>\n
“To see the sheer jubilation on Arthur’s face; that’s a huge thrill for a trainer with the small amount of numbers he has and for it to be his first Group placing,” he said.<\/p>\n
“To have it happen on his home track, it’s fairytale stuff.”<\/p>\n
Scullie said this year’s event again proved why it is one of regional Victoria’s most exciting race days.<\/p>\n
“From the fantastic crowd and perfect conditions to the incredible performance by Evangeline Victoria and the thrilling win by the Ciaron Maher-trained Sayedaty Sadaty with Harry Coffey aboard, the day was a true celebration of racing and entertainment,” he said.<\/p>\n
“Furthermore, we are truly thankful for everyone from the Bendigo and wider community who joined us and supported the day.<\/p>\n
“This day wouldn’t be possible without support from all those who attended and have done so over many years, including so many of our local businesses.<\/p>\n
BJC chairman Jack Lyons hailed the event as a testament to the dedication and teamwork of our staff, supported by our valued members, community and corporate partners.<\/p>\n
