{"id":109517,"date":"2025-11-21T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-11-20T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/?p=109517"},"modified":"2025-11-24T09:35:17","modified_gmt":"2025-11-23T22:35:17","slug":"caravan-industry-victoria-champions-mnd-victorias-bendigo-walk-for-care","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/news\/caravan-industry-victoria-champions-mnd-victorias-bendigo-walk-for-care\/","title":{"rendered":"Caravan Industry Victoria champions MND Victoria&#8217;s Bendigo Walk for Care"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"368\" data-end=\"539\">Caravan Industry Victoria (CIV) took part in MND Victoria\u2019s Bendigo Walk for Care on Saturday 16 November at Lake Weeroona Park to help support a caravan industry veteran.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"541\" data-end=\"950\">Caravan Industry Victoria ex-President from 2005 to 2010 and long-time industry veteran Tony Briant was diagnosed with motor neurone disease at the start of the year. CIV has strong Bendigo connections, having brought the Bendigo Caravan &amp; Camping Leisurefest to the region since 2001, an outdoor lifestyle show partly initiated by Tony more than two decades ago that has supported local charities ever since.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"952\" data-end=\"1325\">This year&#8217;s charity connection was especially meaningful, with CIV supporting MND Victoria. MND Victoria provides a range of services across the state to support people living with MND, including counselling, carer programs and vital assistive equipment. They are the only non-profit organisation in Victoria providing support services to people living with MND at no cost.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1327\" data-end=\"1547\">MND Victoria Fundraising Manager Leah Szymanski said, &#8220;Community fundraisers, such as our longstanding Bendigo Walk For Care and this year&#8217;s Bendigo Caravan &amp; Camping Leisurefest, make a huge difference to MND Victoria.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1549\" data-end=\"1813\">&#8220;It&#8217;s thanks to our community of generous donors and fundraisers that we&#8217;re able to support every Victorian living with MND. We were very sorry to hear of Tony&#8217;s diagnosis, and think it&#8217;s admirable that Caravan Industry Victoria are so committed to honouring him.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1815\" data-end=\"2077\">At the Caravan Industry Victoria Hall of Fame and Industry Awards held in June at Crown Casino, Tony was inducted as a CIV Life Member in front of more than 700 friends and colleagues. To date, only 28 people have been inducted as Life Members at CIV since 1952.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2079\" data-end=\"2366\">Caravan Industry Victoria CEO Daniel Sahlberg described Tony as &#8220;more than a mentor, more than a leader, he has been a champion of knowledge and collaboration sharing, a guardian of our industry&#8217;s best traditions. Earlier this year he faced a personal challenge with incredible courage.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2025\/11\/0C0A0885_77670.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tony Briant accepting Life Member of Caravan Industry Victoria (June 2025).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2368\" data-end=\"2552\">&#8220;Although it has broken his heart that he cannot contribute in the same way with his hands-on approach, his mark has been left on this industry and our people for generations to come.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2554\" data-end=\"2638\">When accepting his award, Tony reflected on his long career in the caravan industry.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2640\" data-end=\"2779\">&#8220;During the day at caravan show, we [exhibitors] were enemies, but at the end of the day, when we got to the bar, we were best of friends.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2781\" data-end=\"3180\">&#8220;His natural curiosity for how things were built drove him forward, from sweeping production floors to production line managers to sales teams with Australia&#8217;s most iconic brands. He became known as a trusted problem solver and forward thinker, introducing innovations well ahead of their time. But he [Tony] has always been an industry professional, a teacher and a mentor at heart,&#8221; Sahlberg said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3182\" data-end=\"3418\">Anybody who goes caravanning in Australia will have had Tony&#8217;s influence accompany them on their journeys through his input across manufacturing, service and repair, sales and the training of more than 250 students throughout Australia.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3420\" data-end=\"3535\">&#8220;There is barely any sector of the industry that hasn&#8217;t been influenced or improved by Tony Briant,&#8221; Sahlberg said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3537\" data-end=\"3796\">CIV President Nat Schiavello and CEO Daniel Sahlberg represented the organisation at the Bendigo Walk for Care. CIV encouraged members who have a past connection to Tony to take part in the event or donate to the Caravan Industry Association fundraising page.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3798\" data-end=\"3893\">CIV has started a fundraising page at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mnd.org.au\/my-fundraising\/3343\/caravan-industry-victoria\">mnd.org.au\/my-fundraising\/3343\/caravan-industry-victoria<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3895\" data-end=\"4145\">The Bendigo Caravan &amp; Camping Leisurefest takes place at Bendigo Racecourse from 21 to 23 November, with more than 110 exhibitors making it the biggest caravan and outdoor lifestyle show in the Goldfields.
