THE traditions and culture of bonnie Scotland will be proudly presented tomorrow at the second annual Scots on Show Scottish Festival.<\/p>\n
Hosted by the Golden City Pipe Band, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary next year, the Highland Gathering-style event will feature a pipe band contest, a Highland dancing contest, Highland clans and a variety of Scottish themed stalls.<\/p>\n
As Golden City Pipe Band secretary and treasurer Fiona O’Halloran explained, the festival was initially realised to celebrate everything about the land of the Scots.<\/p>\n
“We’re trying to encourage people to sample Scottish culture,” she said.<\/p>\n
“Most other (similar) gatherings charge $15 to get in but we’ve kept it very reasonable so everyone can come along and have a look.”<\/p>\n
Ms O’Halloran said with a day to go, everything is finalised.<\/p>\n
“At the moment we’re trying to establish the festival and in future years we hope to grow it more, but this year we’ve got all the stalls confirmed and there’s enough pipe bands to be playing all day, putting on different music, and we’ve also got a best Scottish outfit competition,” she said.<\/p>\n
The Scots on Show Scottish Festival 2025 takes place tomorrow, Saturday 22 November, at Truscott Reserve in California Gully from 10am until 5pm.<\/p>\n
Entry is by gold coin donation.<\/p>\n
In other news, four Golden City Pipe Band members recently traveled down to Melbourne’s Federation Square to participate in a successful attempt to break the world record for the largest ever group bagpipe performance, playing an excerpt from AC\/DC’s It’s A Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock ‘n’ Roll).<\/p>\n
The record attempt, which gathered together a total of 374 pipers, has since gone viral.<\/p>\n
“It’s just gone crazy,” Ms O’Halloran said.<\/p>\n
