{"id":110272,"date":"2025-12-25T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-12-24T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/?p=110272"},"modified":"2025-12-18T19:57:59","modified_gmt":"2025-12-18T08:57:59","slug":"spirit-driving-home-an-important-safety-message-during-title-defence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/sport\/spirit-driving-home-an-important-safety-message-during-title-defence\/","title":{"rendered":"Spirit driving home an important safety message during title defence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>REIGNING WNBL champions Bendigo Spirit have hit the road this season with an important safety message in partnership with the Transport Accident Commission (TAC).<\/p>\n<p>Highlighting the shared commitment of the Spirit and TAC to creating safer journeys and connecting with communities across regional Victoria, the team is playing three games this season under the banner of the TAC Country Roads series.<\/p>\n<p>The series tipped off in style at the Gippsland Regional Indoor Sports Stadium in Traralgon in late November, with the Spirit downing Perth Lynx 87-58.<\/p>\n<p>A home fixture on the road for the Spirit marked the 250th WNBL appearances of co-captains Kelsey Griffin and Marianna Tolo, played in the club&#8217;s special TAC Country Roads jerseys to reinforce the importance of safe driving on country roads.<\/p>\n<p>A 29-point thrashing served as the last game this season for Tolo, who announced her pregnancy with her first child to her teammates in the days leading up to the clash.<\/p>\n<p>The Country Roads series initiative is part of the Spirit&#8217;s ongoing partnership with the TAC, which began during the 2022-23 WNBL season and continues as a four-year collaboration.<\/p>\n<p>Following the Traralgon game, the Spirit took the road safety message to Ballarat for their clash against Geelong Venom on 5 December at Selkirk Stadium.<\/p>\n<p>They will look to reinforce that message when they return to Selkirk Stadium on Friday 9 January, for the third and final match of the series against Southside Flyers.
