BENDIGO Rugby League Club is encouraging anyone interested in taking up the sport to attend a come-and-try day this month.<\/p>\n
The event on Sunday 8 February is the first of its type to be run by the club \u2013 also known as the Crushers \u2013 in their brief history.<\/p>\n
It comes as the club prepares for its first season in the third grade of the NRL Victoria Storm Premiership.<\/p>\n
Founded in 2024, the Crushers played only a couple of exhibition matches last year and also competed in the NRL Victoria Harmony Cup nine-a-side tournament last October.<\/p>\n
Bendigo Rugby League Club president Mikey Dynon said the excitement level was continuing to build following the resumption of pre-season training last month, with a pair of practice matches in the pipeline ahead of the start of the premiership season.<\/p>\n
The Crushers will play in the north west division of third grade against the likes of Geelong Sharks, Sunbury Tigers, Altona Roosters, Hume Eagles, Truganina Rabbitohs and Sunshine Cowboys.<\/p>\n
“The closer it gets, the more exciting it gets for the club,” Dynon said. “It’s unlikely we’ll have juniors \u2026 just a senior team.<\/p>\n
“We’d definitely like juniors at some stage as the sport is getting bigger.<\/p>\n
“If we get a good roll-up to the come-and-try day, who knows what might happen, but it’s full steam ahead for the seniors.”<\/p>\n
Always on the lookout for new players to boost existing numbers, the Crushers are hopeful of unearthing a few hidden gems at their come-and-try day.<\/p>\n
Dynon said it would be an opportunity for interested people to meet the team, talk some rugby league and potentially sign up as a player.<\/p>\n
The come-and-try day will run from 10am to 1pm on 8 February at Epsom Huntly Recreation Reserve number one field.<\/p>\n
All ages and experience levels are welcome.<\/p>\n
