CLASSICAL music ensemble Chamber Philharmonia Cologne will take to the altar for one night only tomorrow week within the grandiose environment of one of Victoria’s most significant religious and architectural landmarks, Wattle Street’s Sacred Heart Cathedral.<\/p>\n

The well-travelled ensemble, founded in Cologne in 2003, tours regularly to Australia, New Zealand, Great Britain, Ireland, Spain and around Germany \u2013 allowing its musicians and soloists to grow artistically, perform as soloists, and progressively expand their musical horizons.<\/p>\n

Its repertoire continues to grow and includes carefully selected works from many musical periods, seeking a balance between famous works and lesser-known pieces ranging from the Baroque to the Classical, Romantic, and Modern eras.<\/p>\n

As such, according to company spokesperson Sofia Faber, the upcoming local performance will combine well-known masterpieces alongside “exciting discoveries”, with highlights including works by Vivaldi, Mozart, Handel and Boccherini.<\/p>\n

“(Our) aim is simple \u2013 to inspire people of all generations to enjoy classical music,” she explained.<\/p>\n

“The ensemble performs around 200 concerts each year worldwide, and audiences across the globe look forward to their concerts with great enthusiasm.<\/p>\n

“Whether performing in a small village church, an open-air venue, a cathedral, or a large concert hall, (our) musicians bring the same passion and dedication to every performance.”<\/p>\n

Chamber Philharmonia Cologne, featuring performances by Sergey Didorenko (violin), Dmitri Gornowskij (violoncello) and Jaime Roda Segrelles (baritone), visits Sacred Heart Cathedral on Saturday 14 March.<\/p>\n

The concert will start at 7.30pm with doors to open 30 minutes prior.<\/p>\n
