BENDIGO roller derby team, the Chiko Rollers, will launch their Statewide Stampede title defence on home turf at the Bendigo Showgrounds next month.<\/p>\n

In a major boost to the team’s 2026 aspirations, Dragon City Roller Derby will host the opening two rounds of Victoria’s premier roller derby tournament on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 April.<\/p>\n

The double header event will take place in the Regional Events Complex and will see teams from across Victoria come together for the first two rounds of the 2026 Statewide Stampede season.<\/p>\n

Over two days of competition, skaters will battle it out on the track in a series of fast-paced games showcasing the strength and community of roller derby across the state.<\/p>\n

The Chiko Rollers will see action twice across the weekend.<\/p>\n

On Saturday at 1pm they will face the East Vic Witches, followed by a 9am Sunday clash against Team Regional Victoria.<\/p>\n

The Chiko Rollers will enter the season as the reigning champions after defeating Ballarat’s The Ratpack 170 to 99 in last year’s grand final.<\/p>\n

Chiko Roller Lucy Champion, whose derby name is Killbo Baggins, said the Statewide Stampede provided valuable development opportunities for skaters and helped foster the strong sense of community that defines roller derby in Victoria.<\/p>\n

“Now comprising 10 teams across two pools, the competition has been running since 2015 and regularly brings together skaters from across metropolitan and regional Victoria to compete in this unique sport,” she said.<\/p>\n

Formed in 2008, Dragon City Roller Derby comprises skaters, referees, non-skating officials and supporters.<\/p>\n

The club has two travel teams, the Chiko Rollers, a women’s team, and The Steam Rollers, an open-gender team, which compete in tournaments and exhibition games across Australia.<\/p>\n

Spectators are welcome at next month’s event.<\/p>\n

Doors open prior to the first game each day, with a full schedule of bouts running throughout both Saturday and Sunday.<\/p>\n

Entry is by gold coin donation and the event is family friendly.<\/p>\n

Limited seating will be available, with spectators encouraged to bring their own chair or picnic blanket.<\/p>\n

Coffee, food and club merchandise will be available onsite.<\/p>\n
